As the subject says, I'm getting 4,000 Console messages 99.9% CCC, with a new batch every 10 seconds, and Console has to keep dumping the old ones so it doesn't fill up too much.

I'm running OS X 10.6.9 Snow Leopard 24" iMac 2.4GHz 4GB RAM Carbon Copy Cloner v. 3.5.1

Even with the Schedule unchecked and an iMac Restart, the messages keep coming. And the same thing is still happening after trashing any "com.bombich.ccc.scheduledtask" file as suggested in some other posts.

A sample of the repeating messages below, as I didn't think you'd appreciate receiving all 4,000 messages:

Any suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem a year or so ago, especially with the repeating "3-02-09 1:41:32 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501118 Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds" type message, and I believe I got it fixed with some change or a Terminal command, but I can't find that now.

Text Clipping of the selected log messages attached. Nope, won't attach now after I removed the wrong file I first attached.

Thanks,

I got the continuous and repetitious CCC Console messages stopped, but I'll keep watch for any ill effects.

I opened my 'com.bombich.ccc-user-agent.plist' files with 'Property List Editor' and unchecked the 'KeepAlive' box and Save, and as 'TextWrangler' (or TextEdit) now shows, that changed the 'KeepAlive' from "true" to "false".

ie:

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

Disabled

KeepAlive

Label
com.bombich.ccc-user-agent
Program
/Applications/Carbon Copy Cloner/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/CCC User Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/CCC User Agent
StandardErrorPath
/Users/patrick/Library/Logs/CCC.log
StandardOutPath
/Users/patrick/Library/Logs/CCC.log

It seems to be working and Console doesn't have to keep working overtime.

Maybe this can help another user if they come across the same problem.

BTW: Putting back the 'com.bombich.ccc.scheduledtask' files I had removed previously did not work, even after some restarts and attempted mods in the two files, and I had to Trash them and create two new CCC schedules.

And for some strange reason, there were a number of files on the 'Source' volume marked as red and exempted, which I opted to change and selected all files.

Hopefully my 9:01pm CCC auto schedule will run properly later this evening. ;-)

Hi Patrick:

This error:

posix_spawn("/Applications/Carbon Copy Cloner/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/CCC User Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/CCC User Agent", ...): No such file or directory

Indicates that CCC has been moved since you initially set up your scheduled tasks. Deleting the com.bombich.ccc-user-agent.plist file from the Library/LaunchAgents folder in your home directory, then logging out and back in would resolve that matter. This particular tool has no bearing on your scheduled tasks, though, it's just an agent for user notifications.

Thanks,

I've had no more bad Console messages since I changed the com.bombich.ccc-user-agent.plist file KeepAlive to false, and the auto scheduled CCC backup all worked well last night.

As per TextEdit:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

Disabled KeepAlive Label com.bombich.ccc-user-agent Program /Applications/Carbon Copy Cloner/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/CCC User Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/CCC User Agent StandardErrorPath /Users/patrick/Library/Logs/CCC.log StandardOutPath /Users/patrick/Library/Logs/CCC.log

BTW: the explanation for "moving" CCC doesn't make much sense to me as it's been in my Applications folder since the beginning and hasn't been touched or even budged since it's last update of Aug 3, 2012.

Regards, and thanks.

JFWIW, I just wanted to mention that the text as shown above from TextEdit or TextWrangler is nowhere close to what they show.

For some reason, it gets all messed up and most parts missing when pasted into these message boxes.

Just thought I'd mention it. ;-)

Can you submit your logs to me for review so I can see if there was something else going on? The easiest way to do this is from within CCC:

1. Choose "Report a problem" from the Help menu
2. Click on the "Submit Logs" tab and review the information presented
3. Click on the "Submit Logs" button
4. Update this discussion to let us know that you've submitted your logs, and please note the submission ID at the bottom of the Submit Logs tab.

I just wanted to mention that the text as shown above from TextEdit or TextWrangler is nowhere close to what they show.

Right, because the Help Desk interprets the markup as HTML markup. No worries, I have a "Show original" link that i can use to view the text as you typed it :-)

Thanks,

Hi Patrick:

I don't know what happened, but I'm pretty sure it happened in this timespan:

02/09 12:59:07 CCC: Loading scheduled task configuration at com.bombich.ccc.scheduledtask.80178BBE-FDD2-48FB-9D83-FD0880700E91.plist.
02/09 12:59:07 CCC: Loading scheduled task configuration at com.bombich.ccc.scheduledtask.AB5723B0-CC9B-42E5-B53E-4925A8654FC9.plist.
02/09 12:59:22 Loading the CCC User Agent
02/09 12:59:22 com.bombich.ccc_user_agent: Already loaded
02/09 12:59:22 "iMac 10.6.8 Backup": Received a request to exit.
02/09 12:59:22 "iMac 10.6.8 Backup": Clone is not running, exiting.
02/09 12:59:22 ccc_helper exiting...
02/09 12:59:26 CCC exiting...

At 12:59:07, you opened the scheduled tasks window and CCC discovered two scheduled tasks. At 12:59:22, you clicked the Save button. At 12:59:26, you quit CCC. I think that CCC may have been in the middle of saving its task configuration file when you quit, and that the task was loaded, but the file was corrupted. As a result, the system had "memory" of the task and had it queued up and ready to go. When the task loaded, though, it couldn't find a valid configuration file:

02/09 15:48:47 Loading ccc_helper.app 3.5.1 (1073) [155]
02/09 15:48:47 The Carbon Copy Cloner Helper utility was launched with an invalid task identifier (com.bombich.ccc.scheduledtask.80178BBE-FDD2-48FB-9D83-FD0880700E91.plist).

It's hard to tell exactly what happened without looking at the task configuration file, but that's my best guess. At this point, that task configuration file is gone and things are working. I think this was probably a fluke, I don't think I've ever seen this issue before. I have seen the "launched with an invalid task identifier" message in years.

BTW: the explanation for "moving" CCC doesn't make much sense to me as it's been in my Applications folder since the beginning and hasn't been touched or even budged since it's last update of Aug 3, 2012.

Actually, at one point you launched CCC 3.5.2 from your Desktop, and that's the missing puzzle piece. Between 3.5.1 and 3.5.2, the name of the CCC user agent application changed from "ccc_user_agent" to "CCC User Agent". As a result, the path to that application changed as well. At some point you loaded CCC 3.5.2 and re-saved your scheduled tasks, and the CCC User Agent plist file was updated with the new application name (and that process went fine). But, then you opened the 3.5.1 version and it knew nothing of the newer-named application, nor how to unload the new launch agent.

Here's when it happened, you flipped back and forth between the two versions a couple times, then settled on 3.5.1:

01/06 16:59:03 CCC path: /Applications/Carbon Copy Cloner/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/Carbon Copy Cloner
01/06 16:59:03 Launched Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.2 (1192) on Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)

01/06 16:59:13 CCC path: /Users/patrick/Desktop/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/Carbon Copy Cloner
01/06 16:59:13 Launched Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.1 (1073) on Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)

01/06 17:15:11 CCC path: /Applications/Carbon Copy Cloner/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/Carbon Copy Cloner
01/06 17:15:11 Launched Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.2 (1192) on Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)

01/06 17:16:27 CCC path: /Users/patrick/Desktop/Carbon Copy Cloner.app/Contents/MacOS/Carbon Copy Cloner
01/06 17:16:27 Launched Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.1 (1073) on Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)

So I think once you update to 3.5.2 and discard the older 3.5.1 version, things should work fine moving forward.

Thanks Mike,

And that's quite a bit of sleuthing you did.

I can't recall why I downloaded and ran CCC 3.5.2 but went back to using CCC 3.5.1, maybe it was because of something in the 'CCC Update..." that I read or something.

It seems that your recommendation to update to CCC 3.5.2 would be the best thing for me to do.

I'm normally running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, as I don't like or need any of the "new" Lion's "features", and I do have Growl installed but it's the Growl 1.2.2 version. No big deal if it doesn't work with CCC 3.5.2.

Would you suggest that I Trash all my previous CCC files and associated .plists etc. and start fresh with a CCC 3.5.2 install and setup?

I use a FW 800 Dock with a WD Black 1TB partitioned 7200 backup drive if that makes any difference.

Thanks for all your sleuthing and help.

Regards,
Patrick

3.5.2 still works with Growl, but that functionality is limited to Snow Leopard and Lion users. Growl support is deprecated only for Mountain Lion users.

No, I don't think that's necessary. 3.5.2 will dispose of the older ccc_user_agent LaunchAgent, so updating should clean things up.
