Can't create sparseimage

Reported this before, Mike answered. I've emptied the trash (sparse image was in it), rebooted, tried again. No joy.

I'm running Mtn Lion, which I installed on my internal HD after erasing it (booted from Lion on an external HD to do that). Migrated my main user from a sparse image of my original Lion hard drive that I'd created with CCC 3.3.

Purchased and downloaded CCC 3.5. Same problem.

Weird... CCC is definitely creating a new disk image and that's just failing. I'm curious whether you get the same error message from Disk Utility if you try to create a 232GB sparse disk image on the same volume. I'm also curious whether the same error would occur if you create a sparsebundle disk image rather than a sparseimage.

OK, tried to 'verify' the target disk in Disk Util. I had to shut down,
disconnect and reconnect the cables, then start up again before Disk Util
    would verify or repair it.

Tried to create a sparse image and then a sparsebundle image from Disk
Util. Here's the relevant screenshots from that. Any idea what authopen
    is?

Especially unable to fathom this last one. Unless it's saying "unable to
create TestImg.sparseimage because the directory you want it to be placed
    in doesn't exist."

    Hi Russ:

Sorry for the delay. I'm afraid the screenshots were truncated. Can you try attaching them again via your web browser instead, e.g. at http://help.bombich.com/discussions/problems/2994-cant-create-spars...

"authopen" is a system utility that is engaged on your behalf when an application wants to open a file that your account doesn't have access to. Maybe this is simply a permissions/ownership issue? If you click on the folder that you're trying to save to, then choose "Get Info" from the Finder's File menu, is your account listed as having full access to that folder at the bottom of the Get Info window?

    Thanks,
    Mike

here's the two images. I tried just saving a file to the root level of the disk and inside a new folder that I had created. Worked fine. My permissions are all OK on that disk.

My move to Mtn Lion did cause some permission problems initially, as I erased my internal HD and did a clean install, then migrated what was needed from my CCC sparseimage of the old Lion disk.

Since the # of items already on that disk, and their importance to me, is minimal, I've moved them to another HD and am in the process of erasing it and writing 0's across it once. Should be done later today. I'll let you know how that worked out.

    best regards, Russ
