This comment was split from the discussion: Help: An error occurred while CCC was "Reading data from the source"

Recently upgraded my iMac and MacBook both early 2008 from 10.5.to 10.6.
Since I use CCC 3.4.6 to sync the Imac and MacBook I ALWAYS get error messages: hardware problems and corrupted / demaged files.
Solution: I run the Applejack script before cloning my user folder (applejack.sourceforge.net is a must have in my opinion).
This is not very comfortable and I wonder if it is related to 10.6 or a kind of "over sensitivity" of CCC 3.4.6.
Wonder also if it is a useful idea to go back to an older versions of CCC.

    Hi Herb:

I wouldn't go back further than 3.4.6 just yet. Can you submit your logs to me for review? The easiest way to do this is from within CCC:

    1. Choose "Report a problem" from the Help menu
    2. Click on the "Submit Logs" tab and review the information presented
    3. Click on the "Submit Logs" button
    4. Update this discussion to let us know that you've submitted your logs, and please note the submission ID at the bottom of the Submit Logs tab.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Herb:

This isn't over-sensitivity, it looks like the filesystem on your backup volume is quite damaged. I see lots of media errors reported when trying to make changes to the filesystem and retrieve data from it. I typically recommend the steps here in the documentation to isolate and resolve these kinds of problems:

    Troubleshooting hardware problems

But I'm pretty sure that step 7, erasing the destination using the "Write zeroes" security option in Disk Utility, is going to be what it takes to fix these problems.

    Hi Mike,
thank you for your great help.
I "worked" my 3 harddrives, deleted and archived old stuff, erased them writing zeros cloned back my system but still the same problem.
Finally, I ran a clean installation and now it works as expected.
