Can CCC back up my TC device to an external USB drive?

   To an external hard drive attached to your Mac, yes. To an external hard drive attached to your Time Capsule? Technically yes, but the performance will be absolutely abysmal. CCC doesn't run on the Time Capsule, it runs on your Mac, so if you attach a hard drive to your Time Capsule, the data travels this path:

   Time Capsule's hard drive --> network --> your Mac --> network --> external hard drive

   So essentially all of the data is getting passed over the network twice.

   Attach the external hard drive to your Mac and this setup will work alright.
